Why laundries are worth doing properly
A laundry is a wet area, which means it has the same waterproofing and drainage rules as a bathroom. It is also the room most likely to have been added on cheaply at some point. Getting the falls, the floor waste and the waterproofing right is what stops a small leak becoming a floor replacement.
What is included
- Strip-out of the old cabinetry, tub and floor covering
- Waterproofing to AS 3740:2021 where the room requires it
- Floor and splashback tiling
- New laundry tub and cabinetry, or a full-height storage run
- Tap work, washing machine connections and the floor waste
- Plastering, painting and the door if it needs it
What it costs
Laundries vary too much for a standard price, so we do not publish a "from" figure we would have to walk back. The price depends on the size of the room, how much cabinetry you want, whether the plumbing is moving, and whether the floor needs waterproofing.
What we do promise is a fixed price in writing after a free site visit, with every line itemised so you can see what is driving the number.
If you are doing the laundry alongside a bathroom, it usually costs less to do both at once, because the trades, the waterproofing and the tiling are already on site.
Common questions
Most are done inside a week on site. Tiling and waterproofing need drying time, which sets the pace more than the labour does.
The wet areas of it do. Where a floor waste is present the whole floor generally needs it. We confirm what applies to your room and it is on the quote.
Usually yes, though moving the drainage is the part that drives the cost. We work out what is involved at the site visit.
Yes. European-style laundries in a cupboard or under a bench are common in units, and we do a lot of them.
