What outdoor work costs

Job Typical price (inc GST) What that covers
Pergolas from $6,600 A 20 m² freestanding treated pine pergola. Where building approval is triggered, add roughly $2,200 to $3,800 for engineering and certification.
Retaining walls from $7,900 A 15 m concrete-sleeper wall 0.8 m high. A 30 m wall a metre high runs to about $19,600. Priced on the face area of the wall.
Patios from $12,200 A 30 m² attached single-skin Colorbond patio, including engineering, certification and the Form 15 and Form 16.
Carports from $16,100 A double carport on an existing slab. On a new slab a 36 m² freestanding double runs to about $21,800, slab included.
Decks from $22,200 A 31 m² composite deck, framed, decked and finished.
Pool surrounds quoted per project Every pool surround is an assembly of decking, paving, coping and screening, so it is priced to the space rather than a standard job.

Final price depends on size, ground conditions, access and finishes. We confirm it in writing before any work starts.

What is included, and what is extra

We quote the whole thing, not a headline number with surprises behind it. Where a job needs engineering, a building approval, a certifier or a slab, those sit as their own lines in your quote so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

  • Engineering and Form 15, where the structure needs it
  • Building approval and certifier Form 16, where the size or siting triggers it
  • QBCC Home Warranty Insurance on contracts of $20,000 or more
  • Spoil removal, skips and tip fees
  • Drainage behind a retaining wall, which we build in as standard, never as an upsell

Common questions

Do I need council approval?

It depends on the size, the height and where it sits on the block. We work that out before quoting, so the approval cost is in your price rather than a surprise later.

Why do some pergolas cost twice what others do?

Approval. A pergola that falls inside accepted development needs no engineering or certifier. One that does not picks up roughly $2,200 to $3,800 of engineering and certification. We establish that before we quote.

How high can a retaining wall go?

Walls over a metre need engineering, and we build that into the quote. We also build the subsoil drain in behind every wall as standard.

Can you build on a slope?

Yes. Stepped and sloping sites are normal here. It changes the hours and sometimes the machine access, which we price after seeing the site.

Do you build multi-storey?

No. Our builder licence covers buildings up to two storeys, so we stick to low-rise.
